GENERAL IDEA
- If you have a beautiful deck and the beauty of it is spoiling due to its wear and tear & you think it's time to invest a few bucks on it but your budget doesn't allow you to replace it or give it on a contract basis,there's one other alternative left to pump in a new life into your old deck, improve its appearance, beauty and prolong its usefulness - painting. Do it yourself.

PREPERATIONS NEEDED
- The success of your project depends upon how well you have done the preperations. After getting a general knowledge about the overall process you can get verbal help on the project from the employees of your area homestores like "Home Depot", "Lowes" etc. Before starting to paint there are certain things to take care of -

PREPARE THE SURFACE
- Begin by replacing any boards that are severely cracked or rotted.
- Remove any loose fastners - don't just pound them down they will quickly comeup again.
- Protect the deck surface with a piece of wood and pry up any protruding nails with a hammer.
- Fasten down any lose boards.
- Scrap the old paint.

CLEANUP THE SURFACE
- Remove all the dust, dirt, etc. with a stiff broom.
- Power wash to remove minute dirt, mildew and leftover oldcoatings.
- Allow the surface of the deck to dryup completely.
- Sweep it carefully with a soft broom.

TOOLS NEEDED
- Good quality rollers.
- Good quality paint brushes.
- Tray to hold the paint.
- Hammer.
- Scrapper.
- Nails, fastners, wood boards if needed to replace.
- Power wash.
- Broom.

PAINTS NEEDED
- Primer
- Paint (Colour of your choice)
- Alkyd category, there are clears, semi transparent and opaque finishes.
- In latex, semi transparent and opaque.
